Watercolors by Stephen Blackburn

"Your method of using frisket and pouring paint has freedom from painting “things”. After reading your articles and incorporating your methods with my own, I find that each painting is an adventure. Negative painting and using the light patterns of the poured frisket allows me to develop a painting that has mystery and excitement. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had with watercolors! Thank you."—JoAnn Rennert, Toledo, Ohio

I have learned to approach my watercolors with more of a sense of adventure and wonder - what will happen next as a result of free form frisket and/or poured paint. Your demonstrations have been very helpful for me - to see you handle paint, water and brushes, adapting each to your technique. The technical information about color, paint and paper has also been very helpful. The grass is yellow green - so I paint that color and don’t think about the chemistry of the colors I use! Now I have references to help make a better decision.—Lanna Pendleton Hall, Montpelier, OH
